Sustainability:
Our Zipper Bags are made with 57% sugarcane BIO-PE, with the remaining 43% being conventional polyethylene. The blend is optimised to deliver the strength and flexibility needed for everyday use, while meaningfully reducing dependence on petroleum-based plastic.
BIO-PE is a plant-based polyethylene derived from sugarcane ethanol rather than conventional petrochemical ethanol. It shares the same molecular structure as regular polyethylene. That structural consistency gives the bags their durability and means they won't break down prematurely in storage or use.
The sustainability benefits of BIO-PE sit at the very start of the product's journey, first at the material sourcing stage, where choosing sugarcane ethanol over fossil fuels reduces carbon emissions and reliance on petrochemicals, and then at the manufacturing stage, where our production facility operates as net zero. By the time the product reaches you, the most meaningful environmental impact has already been made.
At end of life, BIO-PE behaves like conventional polyethylene and can be recycled through soft plastics recycling programs rather than composted or placed in general waste.
We're often asked why we don't offer compostable bags, and it's a fair question. Most compostable plastics rely on PBAT, a petrochemical-derived material that only breaks down under the controlled heat and moisture conditions of industrial composting facilities. At home, these materials frequently fail to decompose properly and can instead fragment into microplastics, which does more environmental harm than good. They can also degrade in shelf life and performance if storage conditions aren't ideal.
Rather than making end-of-life promises that are difficult to deliver on, we've focused on reducing the environmental footprint where we can have the most reliable impact, in how the product is sourced and made.
That commitment carries through to our packaging too. Our Sugarwrap cardboard boxes are made from recycled paper and printed with vegetable-based inks, keeping them fully recyclable through standard kerbside recycling.

Why SugarWrap?
Why SugarWrap?
SugarWrap offers a complete range of kitchen plastics, made with sustainable sugarcane Bio-PE renewable material, that can replace petroleum-based plastics with the goal of establishing an environmentally conscious alternative to food-safe plastics. Unlike Corn-based bio-plastics, Bio-PE made from Brazilian sugarcane has no impact on global food production and also only occupies 1.5% of Brazilian arable land area, with no impact on vital Amazon Rain Forest areas. Brazilian sugarcane is cultivated in the Southeast of Brazil, some 2,000 km away from the Amazon Forest.
